Faculty Friday Spotlight:
Connie Bell Miller | 5th & 6th Science

How many years have you been in education?
20 years.

What’s your favorite class or project to teach?
Science! (Especially geology or geography)

What’s the best book you’ve read this year?
My Own Words, Ruth Bader Ginsburg

What’s your guilty pleasure?
During the driest part of winter, a basic hydrating facial feels wonderful.

What’s a fun fact about you?
As a young woman, one of my favorite hobbies was to compete in drag races with my Ford Mustang. The fastest Mustang I ever owned was a 1972 Mustang Mach I, and it was a beautiful car. I won a lot of those races.

What’s a hobby you enjoy outside of school?
I am a bit of a Rockhound. I love traveling to places where I can mine or search for rocks and minerals. I also enjoy attending Classic Rock concerts!

What do you love most about Selwyn?
I love the students who attend Selwyn and the faculty and staff who work here. I love the family atmosphere and the continuous pursuit of knowledge that is visible at all times. It has been an honor and a privilege to work here all these years. I also enjoyed watching my own daughter attend school and graduate from Selwyn. It is truly an amazing school!

What tip or advice would you give to students?
I tell my students to tap into their curiosity. Ask questions! Then, search for the answers. When you encounter a problem, figure out a solution. Seek knowledge wherever you can find it. Don’t be afraid to make mistakes. All of these things will help you learn new things.
