A campus tour at Selwyn is a personalized visit led by the Director of Admissions, built around your child rather than around a script. You walk the classrooms while school is in session, meet faculty and students, and see the programs your family actually cares about. If you have been putting off scheduling because you are not sure what you are signing up for, here is exactly what to expect.
Who leads the tour?
Our Director of Admissions leads campus tours personally. That matters more than it sounds. You are not handed off to a volunteer with a clipboard. You are walking with the person who knows every grade level, knows which teacher your child would have, and can answer the question you are actually asking underneath the polite one.
Is the tour the same for every family?
No. When you schedule a visit we ask about your child’s interests first, so the tour can highlight what matters most to your family. A parent whose daughter lives for the art room should spend time in the art room. A family weighing outdoor education should be outside. A tour that shows every family the same six stops is a presentation. A tour built around one child is a conversation.
What will I see?
You will see Selwyn while it is running, which is the only honest way to see a school. That means:
- Faculty and students. The people who make the community what it is, in the middle of a normal day rather than lined up for a visit.
- How we teach. Student-centered and experiential learning, from Preschool through Upper School, so you can see how personalized instruction looks in practice instead of in a brochure.
- The programs up close. Fine arts, outdoor education, and problem-solving curricula, which are easier to understand in five minutes of watching than in five pages of reading.
- Your own child in the room. Most parents tell us this is the moment the decision gets easier. You stop evaluating a school and start picturing a Tuesday.
How long does it take, and what should I bring?
Plan for a normal school-day visit and bring your questions written down, because good tours move fast and it is easy to leave with three of the five things you meant to ask. Bring your child if you can. Watching how a five-year-old or a fifteen-year-old reacts to a hallway tells you something no adult conversation will.

What if we cannot get to Argyle right now?
There are two other ways in. Selwyn holds Open Houses each semester where families meet faculty and staff, and there is a Virtual Tour for families who cannot come in person. Both are real options, and neither is a consolation prize. That said, if you can stand in the building, stand in the building.
Does a tour commit us to anything?
It does not. A tour is the first step in seeing if Selwyn is the right fit for your family’s educational goals. The formal process starts later, with an online application and fee, entrance testing and scheduling a visit day. Touring is how you find out whether any of the rest is worth your time.
