International Student Admission Process

Step One

Review the general information and application process on this website.

Step Two

Complete the application. Send or arrange for all documents to be forwarded to the Selwyn Admissions Office.

  1. Application (include a copy of immunization records with health form)
  2. Copy of passport with photo
  3. Current transcripts (to be sent directly from the student’s school)
  4. English scores if applicable*
  5. Teacher recommendations (2) (to be sent directly from the student’s school)
  6. Records and Administration records and release

All students must have a functional ability in English. This means that the student can follow or give basic information in an emergency and can follow basic instructions or direction from a teacher. Selwyn School is not a language school. Students lacking a functional ability in English must complete an ESL program BEFORE arrival at Selwyn.

Step Three

The Admissions Office will contact the applicant to schedule an appointment for a student and parent interview with the Head of School, Head of Upper School and Director of Admissions. If a face-to-face interview is not possible, a video or audio interview will be arranged. Students must be present for the interview and must be prepared to speak without an interpreter. The interview consists of a general discussion about the school philosophy, program level, and the students’ experiences in education. Parents are invited to bring their questions. The interview will last approximately 30-45 minutes.

Step Four

The Admissions Office will contact the applicant to gather details for filing of the student visa (I-120). The I-20 form will be sent to the student in his or her home country where an appointment with the US Embassy must be arranged in order to process the visa. Student visas are issued at the foreign US Embassy through the US Department of Homeland Security after a personal interview.

STUDENT VISAS ARE ISSUED OUTSIDE OF THE US. STUDENTS ARRIVING WITH A VALID VISA FOR THE SCHOOL YEAR MAY BE REQUIRED TO RETURN TO THEIR HOME COUNTRY TO PROCESS THE I-120.
